Sean McArdle is a seasoned musician with two decades of experience as a songwriter, band leader, and multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar. His impressive musical journey includes numerous recordings, countless concerts, and international tours, showcasing his versatility and passion for music. Sean's academic credentials include a BA in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MA in Musicology from the University of Edinburgh.
During his time at UCLA, Sean's musical journey expanded significantly. He studied sitar within the lineage of the legendary Shujaat Khan, mariachi with Grammy Award winning music director Jesús Guzmán, and performed and lectured on American roots music in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles with the UCLA Old Time Ensemble. Sean's research interests include the sociology of underground scenes, and global pop musics. While pursuing his MA in Edinburgh, he focused on punk rock and new media spaces. His own musical projects reflect a diverse range of influences, encompassing post punk, garage rock, and folk.
Sean's teaching style is both engaging and informative, drawing from his extensive experience and academic knowledge. He has taught guitar since 2008, leading both individual and group lessons in a variety of settings. Sean specializes in popular styles for electric and acoustic guitar, including punk, rock, country, American old-time, blues, folk, and psychedelia. He creates a fun and interactive learning environment where students can connect classroom concepts to their own playing and listening experience!
