Sarah Farren
UKULELe and Children’s Music
My name is Sarah or Saz if you prefer, and I’m thrilled to share my passion for music with you. With 9 years of experience specifically focused on ukulele instruction and almost 20 years in overall teaching, I’ve had the pleasure of helping countless students unlock their potential in a variety of ways.
My journey into teaching began when I achieved a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Teaching the younger kids ignited a spark within me and revealed my love for guiding others towards their goals. Through this experience, I discovered the importance of being a role model to others, adapting to everyone’s unique learning styles and helping others grow in confidence.
During my time at university, where I studied Sport and Physical Activity, I cultivated my coaching skills and learned how to structure progressive lesson plans. With this knowledge, I’ve dedicated myself to providing engaging and personal teaching experiences for each of my students.
Over the years, I’ve nurtured my ukulele teaching business from a single class to my full-time vocation. Witnessing my students’ growth and seeing their faces light up when they can finally play that piece they’ve worked on for so long is immensely rewarding.
In 2021, I founded the Scotland Ukulele Project, driven by my belief that music education should be accessible to all. By collaborating with local communities and organisations, I strive to create opportunities for everyone to access the joy of learning an instrument. My ultimate goal is to cultivate a thriving ukulele community in the Glasgow area, that includes people from all walks of life, no matter who they are, or where they are from.
I truly believe that the ukulele is an instrument for everyone. It brings so much joy and happiness to anyone that plays it, and it really brings people together. It is a fantastic way to connect with others, make friends, and explore and nurture your love of music.
