Clarissa Kay

Violin

Clarissa is a dedicated educator and violinist with a personal mission to inspire positive change in both music and music education industries. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in London, Clarissa went on to develop herself as a holistic music educator with The Music Circle in Singapore.

Her interest in injury prevention and efficient instrumental playing led her to pursue postgraduate study in violin performance and pedagogy at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is currently researching how to incorporate injury prevention methods into violin performance and education, with an emphasis in students’ wellbeing and healthier performance.

Clarissa has worked with students across various ages and levels in both individual and group settings. She believes in learning through play and movement, and her teaching method is influenced by Kodaly, Paul Rolland and Mimi Zweig. She also draws from the Alexander Technique and Body Mapping, and utilises mental skills, visualisation and breath work.

As a violinist, Clarissa finds fulfilment making music with others and has played with various orchestras in Singapore, London and Scotland. She particularly enjoys chamber music and cross-art projects and is always keen to collaborate. Clarissa is currently a member of the Braeside Quartet and was previously the violinist of The Tee Trio. Clarissa is an alumnus of the Wells Cathedral School and has studied with Catherine Lord, Sophie Langdon, Leland Chen and Andrea Gajic.
